It's no surprise to anyone that 2020 is one of the worst years ever. For me, in more ways than just COVID related. But, hey, now it's a new year.
There's always expectations that come with the new year, and this one is no exception. It's not a hard feat to be better than the shit show 2020 was, but honestly, we'll be lucky if 2021 doesn't start out as an extension of 2020. Maybe by the end of it things will have improved, but who knows.
To be optimistic, I hope 2021 is a year of growth, a year of new opportunities, new experiences, new friends, new places, of exploration, of really finding yourself. I hope 2021 gives us new music around every corner. Because quite frankly, music was what got me through 2020. When my family was falling apart, when I wasn't able to see my friends, when I felt more alone than ever, music pulled me through. Was there a lot of new music this year? No. But with bands not being able to tour, a lot took to the studios. Many have announced that there will be a new album in 2021. Some have not explicitly, but have hinted at it.
So these next couple posts, will be album reviews of the ten records that got me through the year. Some released in 2020, some not. Following that, a comprehensive list of why we should look forward to new music in 2021.
I'm hoping for a hell of a year, this year. And not the 2020 kind of hell. The good kind.
Cheers to all~
