Songs that Make You Happy You're Single

Whether you're recently single or forever alone, Valentine's Day is probably just another day for you. However, when everyone around you are spending the day with their partners, it might be a worse day than normal.

But don't worry -- I've got you covered. I've been single for every Valentine's Day of my twenty-year-old life. My friends and I have started referring to the day solely as "Anti-Love Day." Whether you need some songs to tell you you're a badass who doesn't need a partner, or if you need some songs that just remind you that it's probably not a bad thing that you're single, here's ten songs for you to enjoy.

"I Miss Having Sex But At Least I Don't Want to Die Anymore" | Waterparks

"I miss having sex but at least I don't wanna die anymore / And I think that's pretty cool"

I purposefully included the live music video for this song, just in case you want to feel less alone while jamming to some good music. This song is exactly what it claims to be -- I mean seriously, the title says it all. The verses are general "fuck everybody" kind of energy, and the chorus is "fuck toxic relationships" energy and all-in-all, the song is a solid "fuck people" and "fuck love" vibe. Which I don't know about you, but it's exactly the kind of remedy I need this Valentine's/Anti-Love Day.

"Wolf In Sheep's Clothing" | Set It Off (feat. William Beckett)

"So could you / Tell me how you're sleeping easy / How you're only thinking of yourself / Show me how you justify / Telling all your lies like second nature"

There's nothing in this world that can cure sadness like a jazzy Broadway-style song about why everyone sucks (well technically it's about how a singular person sucks). But seriously, if you've got pent up frustration or anger towards someone who wronged you and you really want to dance, this is perfect. I swear it's impossible not to dance to the Broadway-esque beats.

"P.A.T.T." | Against the Current

"If love is blind / Why do we got to be pretty all the time? (You just got to be who you are, that's all you can be)"

What kind of anti-love list would this be if we didn't also challenge the societal expectations of women? If you're a woman and you've felt that societal pressure to always look pretty and dress nice, this songs for you. Don your sweatpants and dance your heart out to this one because you don't need anyone who doesn't respect your sweatpants game.

"7 Rings" | Ariana Grande

"Wearing a ring, but ain't gon' be no "Mrs." / Bought matching diamonds for six of my bitches / I'd rather spoil all my friends with my riches"

Bet you didn't expect to see an Ariana Grande song from me, but BAM there it is. This song's all about not needing a romantic partner and being just fine with your friends. It's about spoiling yourself and your friends because you don't need anyone else.

"Middle Finger" | Bohnes

"But I refuse to let you make me feel like I can't fly / Not only will I soar again, I'll own the fucking sky, yeah"

Technically speaking, there's a lot of arguments about what exactly Bohnes is saying "fuck you" too with this song. While the older generations may be the most likely, I can promise you it's very cathartic to sing this song about whoever has pushed you down in your life. It's also a solid anthemic song about not being held down by anything or anyone. Which is why it made this list.

"Salt" | Ava Max

"I got my thigh-highs on, feel like Wonder Woman / That's when you want all in, but I'm not your woman"

"Salt" is a self-empowerment song. It's proof that you don't need a partner who's just gonna treat you like shit. It's not dwelling on the past and moving on and being good by yourself.

"Own Me" | bülow

"You can pay what you want / But you're never going to own me"

Another self-empowerment song. Although specifically directed at the music industry and how people try to own you, your image and your work, it works in this regard too. You're your own person. No one can own you but yourself. Do your own thing and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

"White Flag" | Bishop Briggs

"I'll save myself in spite of you"

This song is all about saving yourself and never giving up. You don't need someone else to save you. You're a boss ass bitch who can fight for herself and who's not gonna give up in the face of adversary. Long story short, you're a boss ass bitch who don't need no person.

"So What" | P!nk

"So, so what? I'm still a rockstar / I got my rock moves and I don't need you"

It's a classic "fuck you" kind of song. It's the kind of song that screams I'm better without you, I'm better on my own. So break out those dance moves and belt the words to the world -- don't lie to yourself, we all know all of the words to this song.

"Team" | Krewella

"I don't know about you but I'm feeling fine / 'Cause all I need in this life are a few good ride or dies"

You don't need a bunch of people on your team, and you certainly don't need a partner. All you need are a few good ride or dies and the recognition that you don't need a crown to know you're a king or queen.

Since I know this weekend can be difficult for some, here's six more songs to give you that extra boost you may need.

"Part of Me" | Katy Perry

"Throw your sticks and your stones / Throw your bombs and your blows / But you’re not gonna break my soul / This is the part of me / That you’re never gonna ever take away from me"

This is your life, so dance if you want to! And this song probably will make you really want to. Look, I don't listen to a lot of Katy Perry, hell, I rarely listen to Katy Perry, but this song really strikes a chord. It's a reminder that you're strong and that they can't take who you are away from you. So fucking dance if that's what you want to do, belt out these words like it's still 2012 if you so desire!

"Confident" | Demi Lovato

"So, you say I'm complicated / That I must be out my mind / But you've had me underrated-rated-rated"

This one's for all of you -- whether confident or not, trust me, this song makes you feel confident regardless. This is an empowering song for anyone -- be confident in yourself, in who you are, and jam the fuck out to this certified bop.

"She's So Gone" | Naomi Scott

"Here I am, this is me / And I'm stronger than you ever thought I'd be / Are you shocked?"

Okay, yes this is a song from an older Disney movie. But this one is a certified banger. It's about growing on your own, learning from past mistakes and relationships and breaking out of your shell. It's breaking free from other people's expectations of yourself.

"Look What You Made Me Do" | Taylor Swift

"Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time / I've got a list of names and yours is in red, underlined"

This song is all about karma and includes themes of being distrustful. It's getting back up when you get knocked down. Sure, it's not directly about love, but it applies here too -- see themes about being reborn into a smarter, stronger person.

"Mascara" | Megan Nicole

"Open eyes and now I think it's time for me / To be in control, I'm taking it back / I'm taking it back"

Stop wasting your mascara on people who just keep hurting you -- that's what this song paints. Take back your control on your own life, build yourself up. Life's too short to deal with people who keep disregarding your feelings. It's so much more important to be in control of your own life, to be happy in your skin, than to be in a relationship. So if it's single or crying every night, then choose single because it's not worth it.

"lights (4444) | nothing,nowhere

"I'ma go my own way / And I don't give a fuck if you hate me"

I swear, this is one of the vibey-est songs on the planet and there's nothing you can do to convince me otherwise (And also quite possibly the only song in this bonus section that could be considered "on brand" for me. But I live for curveballs so enjoy this one non-curveball bonus). This song is for those of you doing your own thing and moving on from the past.
