There is little more exciting than seeing two (or sometimes more) artists come together to really create something amazing. Sure, sometimes it can be lack luster or a major letdown, I can't deny that. But when they work, they can be absolutely amazing. Some collaborations are some of my absolute favorite songs. So today, we're going to celebrate the best features I, now you, have ever heard.
"Bite My Tongue" - You Me At Six ft. Oli Sykes
This song is a collaboration for the ages. It's one of You Me At Six's heavier songs, and that's in part thanks to their collaborator, Oli Sykes of Bring Me the Horizon. He's pretty much just in the bridge in a pretty standard collaboration structure, but it works so beautifully. His unclean vocals really bring out the edge in the song. Genuinely, to this day, probably my favorite You Me At Six song's in existence.
"A Love Like War" - All Time Low ft. Vic Fuentes
The collaboration between All Time Low and Vic Fuentes of Pierce the Veil was, just like its music video, a fun one. It's got a pretty standard All Time Low feel to it, but it's paired with Vic's unique vocals in a way that works so well. He plays a major role in the chorus, the post-chorus and then also in the second verse. It strays from the standard collaboration structure and, instead, they just have fun with it. Vic even gets to let out a little tiny scream before the bridge. It's a super catchy song between two artists who work surprisingly well together.
"Rise Above It" - I Prevail ft. Justin Stone
I will never be able to say enough good things about this track. Genuinely. It's perfect in every way. The addition of Justin Stone adds a whole other element to the song that kicks it up a notch. It's a wonderful blend of rap and heavy metal. It's so fun, it's so hype. It's one of my favorite songs of all time.
"Crying Over You" - The Band CAMINO ft. Chelsea Cutler
We're going to get emotional with this collaboration. It's a beautiful breakup song. But what really sticks with me, is how The Band CAMINO's Spencer Stewart doesn't come in with his vocals until the second verse. Chelsea Cutler is left on her own vocally for the first verse and chorus. Spencer gets the second verse and the majority of the second chorus. The two split then the rest of the song. It's such an intermingled collaboration that works so fantastically and really just oozes emotion.
"Liquid" - Boston Manor ft. John Floreani
This collaboration between Boston Manor and Trophy Eyes' John Floreani really stands out to me because of the final chorus. The way John's and Henry Cox's voices compliment each other so effortlessly really sticks with you. It's a hell of a track, and the addition of John Floreani really elevates it to another level.
"Perfect by Design" - Natewantstobattle ft. AmaLee
We're going to get emotional on this one too. This song deals with identity and individuality, and it's just a genuinely beautiful track. AmaLee comes in for the first time in the second verse, where the two's vocals become pretty intertwined for the rest of the song, typically alternating lines or singing in harmony. Written with no choruses, the jarring structure of the song paired with the two's vocals is kind of hauntingly beautiful.
"King for a Day" - Pierce the Veil ft. Kellin Quinn
It's genuinely impossible to know either Pierce the Veil or Sleeping With Sirens and not know this song. It's hard to not know it and be a fan of the genre. "King for a Day" is a staple, a classic. It's a collaboration that happened because their fans asked for it, and thank god they did. The track is iconic in every way, highlighting both Pierce the Veil's strengths and Kellin's. Plus, the music video is a good time too, which is always a plus.
"Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" - Set It Off ft. William Beckett
It's impossible to talk collaborations and not mention "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing." It's a scathing but super jazzy song. A fuck you anthem in a broadway-esque tone. Cody Carson and William Beckett work so smoothly together vocally. It's beyond catchy. And don't even get me started on that bridge. Easily one of my favorites.
"Where I Belong" - Simple Plan, State Champs, ft. We the Kings
Typically having so many artists on one track can feel crowded. Not this one. It's a fantastic representation of the three bands, and it's nothing but good fun. It's one hell of a bop, and it sure as hell goes hard live. It also references some classic songs of each of the bands, which is so much fun. It's a phenomenal track, genuinely. The three bands work together so wonderfully in it.
"Human" - The Word Alive ft. Sincerely Collins"
I really don't know what there is to say about this song. It's done so absolutely well in every possible way. It's emotional as hell, but it also goes hard. The addition of Sincerely Collins in the bridge works so smoothly and helps lift the song up a notch.
"Wobble" - Patent Pending ft. Awsten Knight
The love I have for this song is unreal. It's nothing but a fun song and a huge banger all around. It's low-key ridiculous. I would love to be a fly on the wall for the recording and writing process of this song. Waterparks' Awsten Knight really compliments the track so well. This song is just two artists having a blast and it shows.
"Met Him Last Night" - Demi Lovato ft. Ariana Grande
The two singer's vocals work so beautifully together in this song. They work in perfect compliment and harmony to each other. It wasn't a combination I genuinely thought would work well in theory, but they proved me so incredibly wrong. It's a gorgeous track that's so unbelievably elevated by the collaboration.
"IN THREES" - AS IT IS ft. Cody Carson and JordyPurp
This song is actually perfect. There's nothing wrong about it, no critiques to give. It's angsty as all hell. It's an absolute banger from start to finish. All three artists bring out the absolute best of each other, really elevating each other. Cody Carson's and Patty Walters's vocals are so intermingled, which makes JordyPurp in the bridge stand out so much more. It's so good. Phenomenal track.
"Good for Her" - MOTHICA ft. emlyn
The two women work so well together in this song about female empowerment. They really bring out each other's strengths. It's not a long song, but it's definitely a powerful one.
"Imaginary Friends" - VOILÀ ft. Hey Violet
This collaboration between these two bands might be the last on this list, but it's by far not the worst. It's got such a light-hearted vibe to it that's kind of just so refreshing. The two work so well, her voice highlighting and exemplifying his and vice versa. There's not one voice that really overpowers the other, which can happen so easily when you pair a masculine and feminine voice.
